By The Canadian Press

A young driver lost his life after a collision with a pickup truck Friday night in Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton, near Granby, in the Eastern Townships.

Emergency services were alerted at around 11:30 p.m. to the accident that had occurred on Highway 137.

“The event involved two vehicles, a car and a pick-up truck,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“According to the first information gathered, the car lost control, deviated from its trajectory and drove in the opposite direction before colliding with the vehicle coming in the opposite direction,” he said

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man from Bois-des-Fillion, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

“The icy road could be a contributing factor,” said Sergeant Deshaies, while noting that “a specialized collision investigator went to the scene to analyze the scene, determine the causes and circumstances surrounding this event.”

Route 137 was closed in the area while the scene was analyzed.

The investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is ongoing.
