Snowy Sunday closes out the week in Montreal as wintry weather lingers

Spring may be on the calendar, but Montreal looked more like mid-winter Sunday as snow blanketed the city to close out the week.

Environment Canada says nearly 10 centimetres of snow fell across the Greater Montreal area, with periods of steady snowfall and reduced visibility at times. Snowfall rates reached up to two centimetres per hour, prompting warnings for difficult travel conditions.

The snow is expected to taper off later in the day, leaving behind cloudy skies and a daytime high of minus-2 Celsius, with a wind chill making it feel closer to minus-10 C.

Skies are expected to clear gradually overnight, with a low of minus-4 C and wind chills near minus-10 C.

The start of the work week will remain unsettled. Monday is expected to be mainly cloudy, with a chance of afternoon flurries and a high of plus 2 C.

Tuesday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 2 C, followed by cloudy periods overnight.

Cloudy conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday, with a similar daytime high before temperatures drop sharply overnight.

More wintry weather is on the way later in the week, with snow expected Thursday and a chance of flurries into Friday.

Sunshine is forecast to return by Saturday, though temperatures are expected to remain below freezing.
