The Government of Quebec grants $600,000 in funding to the Irish Monument in Montreal

The Irish Monument memorial site, located on Bridge Street in Montreal, has been awarded $600,000 by the Government of Quebec.
The provincial minister responsible for Social Solidarity and Community Action, Chantal Rouleau, made the announcement Sunday as part of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, as the parade took place in the streets of Montreal.
“I am deeply touched by this project, which pays tribute to the thousands of Irish immigrants who lost their lives here while fleeing the Great Famine,” Rouleau said in a statement Sunday. We have a duty to preserve their memory and to recognize the exceptional solidarity that many Montrealers have shown towards them.
“By supporting this memorial park, our government is helping to make this place a place of contemplation and transmission, while highlighting the important contribution of Quebecers of Irish origin to our city,” she added.
The $600,000 was granted to the Montreal Irish Monument Park Foundation through component 2 of the Signature Metropolis Fund, applied by the Secrétariat à la région métropolitaine (SRM) of the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH).
