19-year-old Quebec tourist shot dead in Dominican Republic

A 19-year-old man from Sainte-Julienne in the Lanaudière region was killed in the Dominican Republic on March 23, 2026.
Tristan Primeau-Poitras was travelling with his family in Puerto Plata.
According to local media in Dominican Republic, he was shot while riding a motorcycle with his brother at around 5 a.m. He later died in hospital.
His brother telling TVA Nouvelles they had left hotel grounds to get a sandwich.
A police investigation is ongoing.
Local media in Dominican Republic report the suspect or suspects may have been attempting to steal the motorcycle the tourists were riding on. However, that has not been confirmed by police.
Loved ones took to social media to pay tributes to Primeau-Poitras saying he “brought light everywhere he went.”
