20-year-old charged with 2nd-degree murder in death of 18-year-old woman in St-Michel

A 20-year-old Montreal man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his partner.

Heberth Gudiel Martinez Ramirez allegedly killed 18-year-old Katerine Alejandra Mejia Salinas following what was described by police as an altercation in a St-Michel apartment on Tuesday.

The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday and remains detained.

Police responded to a residence on Everett Street on Tuesday around 12:30pm after reports of a possible fight between Martinez Ramirez and Mejia Salinas.

When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious. She was in critical condition with serious injuries and transported to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

If proven, this marks the eighth femicide in Quebec since the start of 2026.

The suspect is expected back in court May 6.
