A pregnant woman who fainted aboard a REM train Tuesday morning had to wait for help after the emergency button in her rail car failed to work.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. near Central Station. According to a video circulating on social media, passengers attempted to press the train’s emergency button to alert authorities, but received no response.
With no immediate assistance from the system, one passenger called 911, allowing paramedics to be dispatched to the scene.
Pulsar told CityNews in a statement:
“The safety of REM users is a priority for Pulsar. The emergency services contacted us yesterday morning in connection with a call from a user. We were able to support them with our agents directly on the ground at the Central Station. Following the occurrence, an additional check was conducted on all trains in operation. The train in question has been withdrawn from circulation. It should be noted that the train’s communication devices are checked on a daily basis.
“It is important to remember that the cellular network is functional everywhere on the entire network, even in tunnels. The use of the communication device is a complementary measure. The user who made the call for a medical ailment acted well. Remember that our team is present at the operations center as is the case 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
The woman was then taken care of by emergency responders. Her condition has not been publicly disclosed.
