Gatineau police: Man reportedly killed partner in murder-suicide

By News Staff

Gatineau Police (SPVG) say a 34-year-old man allegedly killed his 30-year-old partner before taking his own life.

SPVG officers were called shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday to perform a welfare check at an apartment building on Laurier Street in the Hull sector.

When authorities arrived, they discovered signs of a fire inside one of the units and requested assistance from the Gatineau Fire Department (SSIG).

Two people found dead in fourth-floor unit

Police say two individuals were located unconscious inside a fourth-floor apartment. Their deaths were confirmed at the scene.

A full evacuation of the building was carried out as a precaution.

More than 20 people who were unable to return to their units were temporarily taken in by the Red Cross.

Investigators and forensic identification technicians later secured the area and established a perimeter to examine the scene.

Police say no further details are being released to protect the integrity of the investigation and out of respect for the families involved.
