MURAL Festival returns to Montreal on Thursday, transforming Saint-Laurent Boulevard into a massive open-air art gallery for its 14th edition.
“I think Montreal makes the mural fest special with the food scene, the creativity scene with a Subculture scene, and role is representing all of those at the same time,” said Nicolas Munn Rico, the founder of MURAL Festival.
Running through June 14, the festival has announced eight additional visual artists who will contribute new works to Montreal’s urban landscape, including Projet TYXNA, Omar Bernal, Isadora Ayesha, Korb, M. Roboto, Bibi Una, La Fureur du Wragon and PsyQu33n Medusa.
The annual event will feature live mural painting, eight free Block Parties, guided art tours and the return of the popular Secret Walls competition, where artists face off in live “paint battles” before a public audience.
For this edition, the collective Projet Tyxna — made up of Fuse, Zek and Dodo — is creating a new piece inspired by the video game Dead by Daylight, developed by Montreal studio Behaviour. The trio is no stranger to the festival… they’ve been part of MURAL for more than a decade, including their well-known “Mémé la Main” mural at the corner of Saint-Laurent and Des Pins, which was refreshed three years ago.
“So we decide to create kind of like a comic book of different characters, who are kind of in an adventure,” said Fuse.

Zek says it will take about 2 to 3 weeks to complete their mural, but it really comes to life when people start gathering around the wall.
“I like when the wall is almost done, we’re finishing the last touch-ups, the last details, and people showing up,” said Zek.
Organizers say this year’s event will once again transform the Main into a vibrant hub for art, music and community, offering a wide range of free activities for visitors of all ages.
“We have 15 murals being painted all at the same time in the plateau Mont Royal I think having a walk on the Plateau for the street closure. We do close two kilometers of streets So I think it’s worth seeing all the merchants are coming out,” said Munn Rico.
Festivalgoers can also participate in free graffiti lettering workshops and Street Chalk activities at Parc du Portugal throughout the festival.
“We’re also creating a market all across Saint-Laurent with tons of entrepreneurs that are showcasing their services, their talents on Saint-Laurent. So that’s worth it,” said Munn Rico.
Fuse says, “And on the 13th of June, there’s gonna be a big block party here because every year we like to celebrate with like other artists or people on the streets. So they’re gonna be like DJs. We’re gonna do some projection also on the wall.”
MURAL Festival runs from June 4 to 14 along Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
