Two vehicles damaged in suspected arson in Rivière-des-Prairies

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after two vehicles were damaged in a suspected arson in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough early Sunday morning.

Police say they received multiple 911 calls at around 12:35 a.m. reporting a vehicle fire on Nicola-Leblanc Avenue near Rita-Levi-Montalcini Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found two parked vehicles engulfed in flames — a pickup truck and a second vehicle — with firefighters already on scene working to extinguish the fire.

Both vehicles sustained major damage. No injuries were reported, and no nearby buildings were damaged.

According to initial information, suspects are believed to have approached the vehicles, set them on fire and fled before police arrived.

Police say the presence of incendiary materials at the scene suggests the fire was of a criminal nature. The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM’s arson unit.

The vehicles were towed for forensic analysis. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
