Police investigate suspected arson after vehicle set ablaze in St-Leonard

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after they say a vehicle was deliberately set on fire in Saint-Leonard early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. about an incident on Couture Boulevard, near Larin Street. Once there, they found a burnt car – the flames had already been extinguished by a nearby resident before emergency crews arrived.

Police said the fire caused only minor damage to the vehicle and no other property was damaged.

Investigators recovered incendiary materials at the scene.

According to preliminary information from a witness, a suspect was seen setting the vehicle on fire before fleeing.

The investigation has been turned over to the Montreal police arson squad. No arrests have been made as of yet.
