Montreal and blue-collar workers in conciliation to try to avoid strike

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

The City of Montreal and the blue-collar workers will enter a conciliation phase, in the hope of renewing the collective agreement and avoiding the strike days planned during the Road Cycling World Championships.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés, confirmed the information.

Conciliation-mediation aims to try to bring the parties together during the negotiation of a collective agreement by involving a neutral third party.

The Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal has some 6,000 members. It has already announced its intention to walk out for seven days, from September 22 to 28, during the Road World Championships.

For their part, the blue-collar workers of Parc Jean-Drapeau will meet next Monday to vote on a final offer from the employer.
