Quebec COVID hospitalizations with major decrease, deaths rise

Quebec adding 29 COVID deaths to its total, but hospitalizations for the virus down by 73 patients.

The province dealing with 386 active outbreaks and 3,617 health care workers out sick.

16,363 fatalities total since the pandemic began: two more deaths in the last 24 hours, 23 more added from the last week to the total, and four added from over seven days ago.

1,807 people being treated in hospital – but 608 of those admitted because of COVID-19 symptoms, the rest tested positive after being hospitalized for other ailments. 224 new entries and 297 discharges.

Of those, 49 in ICU, including 24 specifically for COVID and the rest testing positive after being admitted – stable compared to the previous day, with 16 new entries and 16 released.

A total of 852 new infections in the last 24 hours, with 141 tests self-declared by Quebecers who were positive. The overall case numbers likely an undercount as access to PCR tests is limited to specific groups and not everyone self-declare their rapid tests.

Vaccination rates:  

-56 per cent of those eligible have gotten a third dose, with 703 boosters administered in the last 24 hours

-20 per cent of those eligible have gotten a fourth shot, with 6,387 doses of the second booster administered in the last 24 hours

-13K+ doses administered last 24 hours, 20.7M+ total so far
