Canada Post customer passwords reset to thwart hackers

By Jason White

OTTAWA – Canada Post is resetting all of its customers’ online passwords, after other websites were hacked.

The Crown corporation says first and foremost that its network was not breached, but, that in 2017, hackers may have gotten into some of its customers’ accounts with passwords stolen in hacks of other online services.

Customers whose accounts were accessed are being notified.

This is an example of why cyber security experts tell us to use different passwords for each of our online accounts.

They also recommend things like a passphrase — multiple words, not just one.

Nearly everyone makes the first letter uppercase, and puts all the numbers at the end. Experts recommend you mix it up to make it harder for hackers to crack your password.
