OTTAWA (1310 NEWS) – Every year, from the last Friday of October until Nov. 11, millions of Canadians wear a poppy to honour Canada’s veterans and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
The Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign officially launched Oct. 25, with veterans and volunteers handing out the flower pins ahead of Remembrance Day on street corners and at transit stations across the country.
Poppy boxes are also placed on hundreds of retail counters.
Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign directly support veterans and their families to help ensure Canadians never forget the sacrifices of those who served.
Nearly 20 million poppies were distributed in 2017, and more than $16 million was raised.
