Quebec elementary schools prepare to reopen

MONTREAL (CITYNEWS) – While the pandemic continues around the world, Quebec is preparing to open its schools outside of the greater Montreal region on Monday.

The province will be the first in Canada to reopen its elementary schools.

For returning students, it won’t be the schools they remember. The new normal will mean physical distancing, frequent handwashing, long hours spent at their desks, all while respecting public health guidelines.

At Howick Elementary School – about an hour southwest of Montreal – social distancing and safety measures have been put in place like directional arrows and spaced-out classrooms.

Far fewer students than usual are expected at the school Monday.

Montreal, which has been hard hit by COVID-19, isn’t slated to open elementary schools until May 25.

High schools across Quebec remain closed.
