Montreal emergency rooms at full capacity

MONTREAL (CITYNEWS) – Quebecers may have stayed away from hospital emergency rooms during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic but they are now slowly finding their way back.

Occupancy rates have slowly been climbing since last month.

As of Friday, 14 Montreal emergency rooms had an occupation rate of 100 per cent or more.

The situation was classified as “red” everywhere around Montreal, in the Eastern Townships, Laval and the Monteregie.

Pierre-Boucher hospital in Longueuil had an occupancy rate of 189 per cent.

Nursing staff there staged a two-hour sit-in on Friday when the administration tried to impose mandatory overtime to healthcare workers.
