Bloc Québécois’ Yves-François Blanchet denies sexual assault claims

OTTAWA – Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet is unequivocally denying claims of inappropriate sexual behaviour against him.
A statement Wednesday morning from the party doesn’t specifically identify the allegations, but it came hours after an anonymous post on a Facebook community page.
The post claims that back in 1999, before Blanchet entered politics, a woman was bar hopping with him and others when he did cocaine with her in the bathroom of a bar. It goes on to say Blanchet made sexual advances on the woman and that he was insistent, despite her refusal. The post also says the woman had nightmares after the incident.
It is not signed, so it is not clear who is making the allegation.
The statement from the Bloc urges the person who published the allegations Tuesday night to file a complaint with authorities so there can be justice for a victim of a criminal act.
It goes on to say Blanchet will continue his professional duties and that there will be no further comment.
