Eric Lapointe back in court on assault charges

By CityNews Staff

MONTREAL – Quebec rock singer Eric Lapointe’s case was back in Montreal court Friday.

Lapointe is facing assault charges after allegedly punching a woman during his birthday party on Sept. 30 last year.

The 50-year-old singer will also face charges of non-compliance with court orders as he is said to have communicated with the victim–something that is forbidden.

A publication ban protects the identity of the victim.

Lapointe, one of Quebec’s best-known musicians, has pleaded not guilty.

His trial begins Oct. 27 and is set to last three days.
