Royal Canadian Legion launching annual poppy campaign Friday

OTTAWA – The annual poppy campaign launches Friday, and the Royal Canadian Legion will be rolling out over 200 new electronic donation boxes ahead of Remembrance Day.

The legion says this year’s campaign has been adjusted for the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning most branches will not set up donation tables or place volunteers at store entrances.

Poppy boxes will still be set up accepting coin donations at about 25,000 locations across the country, and 250 touchless electronic donation boxes, which will allow Canadians to make a $2 donation by tapping their credit or debit card, or smartphone, will also be distributed.

The Royal Canadian Legion is also selling masks.

All funds raised go towards supporting Canadian veterans and their families.
