LAVAL – The seven-year-old girl who died on Sunday in Laval had been on youth protection’s radar, according to multiple reports.

Now, Quebec’s Youth and Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation into the suspicious death.

A file had previously been opened about her in the fall by the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ).

The police have yet to confirm details, but said bodily harm may have been a factor. An autopsy was to be performed Monday.

Calls came into 911 around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The child was not breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene–a home in Chomedey.

Reports say the child had bruises and severe burns.

She was transported to Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal, where her death was confirmed.

Six people that live in the home have been questioned as possible witnesses, including the girl’s parents.

Youth protection was notified by police of two other children belonging to the couple, who were not injured. First reports say they were not there at the time of the incident.
