A highway by any other name: Autoroute 720 becomes Route 136

MONTREAL (CityNews) — The stretch of highway that cuts across several of Montreal’s southern neighbourhoods, including the downtown core, will be getting a new name.

Autoroute 720, which begins at the Turcot Interchange and ends at Papineau Street, will be renamed Route 136.

Quebec’s ministry of transport made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

The new signage is expected to be in place in the coming few weeks.

The government first announced plans to rename that particular stretch of highway, also known to Montrealers as Autoroute Ville-Marie, back in 2015.
