A Gatineau man was arrested Wednesday in connection with threats made on social media against Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé.
Dany Roy posted this message on his Facebook page Tuesday with a screen shot of Dubé during his announcement of the implementation of the vaccine passport in the province, “Take a good look at me and remember my name Christian, I promise you that the rest of Quebec will remember my name on September 1st. It’s a promise I’m making on the heads of your children. Do you think you can intimidate me and manipulate me? You will be held to account, I swear it to you.”
It’s not the first time Roy allegedly targetted a Quebec politician or media of the possible consequences of introducing a vaccination passport. He previously targeted Premier Legault and TVA Nouvelles earlier this month.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ), assisted by Gatineau Police (SPVG), attempted to intercept Roy while he drove his vehicle Wednesday, shortly before 7pm – but he refused to stop. Roy collided with an SQ vehicle before rushing towards an SPVG agent who narrowly escaped. The police finally apprehended him at his home. They report Roy resisted arrest, attempting to attack an officer. Authorities used a taser to bring him down.
During the search of his home, law enforcement officials found several guns and seized computer equipment.
The suspect appeared in court Thursday by telephone from his hospital bed, where he has been kept since his arrest for a psychiatric assessment. Roy is charged with threats, dangerous driving, obstructing police work, assaulting a peace officer and assault with a weapon among other charges – more could be added.
