Quebec preparing ‘mammoth’ bill to rework province’s health-care system

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dube says the Francois Legault government wants to fundamentally change the health-care system by next year and will introduce an important bill to do so this fall.

Dube revealed the province’s intentions at a congress for young CAQ members on Saturday, saying they want to change several laws when it comes to health care and called it a “mammoth” bill that would be tabled at the beginning of November.

The government wants to obtain better data from the health network, a gap highlighted in the first wave of the pandemic, and work on tackling access to family doctors. COVID showed telemedicine can work.

Dube also promised better working conditions for nurses, tackling mandatory overtime, and reducing the use of private agencies. He says Quebec will unveil a plan soon to quickly hire 4,000 nurses.
