Patrick Roy on potential Canadiens GM job: ‘I’ll definitely listen’

Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy says he’ll listen if the phone rings about the Montreal Canadiens’ general manager position.

This comes after the Habs relieved longtime GM Marc Bergevin of his duties on Sunday.

Speaking to TVA Sports and Radio-Canada at a Quebec Remparts’ practice – where Roy is the GM – he addressed the vacancy.

“Would I be interested? Of course,” he told reporters. “But at the same time, I am aware that it is a process and that there are several very good candidates who will be in the running.

“But if I get a call, I’ll definitely listen.

“Since 1993 that the team is turning in circles, what do they have to lose to give me a chance to see what I could do with the club?”

On Monday, Montreal Canadiens president and owner Geoff Molson said the team’s start to the season was “unacceptable.”

Molson said he plans on creating a list of potential candidates to replace Bergevin, making it clear the new general manager would have to be bilingual.
