Animal remains found outside mosque in Vaudreuil-Dorion

A 33-year-old man has been arrested by the Sûreté du Québec after animal remains were left outside a mosque in Vaudreuil-Dorion over the weekend.

Police called to Rang Saint-Antoine at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The SQ wasn’t able to say what kind of animal it was or a potential motive, but say the animal did not just die in the area. It seems the carcass was left there on purpose.

A police spokesperson said the 33-year-old has been released after agreeing to follow certain conditions, one of which is appearing in court if he is charged.

An investigation is ongoing. Authorities have yet to classify the incident as a hate crime.

CityNews reached out to representatives of the Centre culturel Islamique de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, but have not heard back.
