Quebec reports a record 5,043 COVID-19 cases

Quebec has reported a record number of COVID-19 cases, adding 5,043 in one day.
Eight deaths were also reported. There are currently 415 people in hospital, with 88 of those in the ICU.
The province is trending a 111% increase in cases over the last seven days – 3,711 on average.
Hospitalizations were up by 42% and ICU numbers by 17% over the last week.
Fifty-three per cent of Quebecers aged five to eleven have gotten their first dose and three per cent have taken their initial appointment.
About 8.6% of eligible Quebecers have gotten a booster shot.
84.2% of Quebecers 5+ have received one dose, while 78.4% of those have two shots.
More than 73,000 doses were administered in the last 24 hours, with 14.4 million administered so far.
There are currently 415 hospitalizations, with 59 new entries and 41 discharges in the past day.
Of those, 88 people are in ICU, including 10 new entries and four discharges.
According to testing from Dec. 19, the positivity rate is at 10.1%.
