Charles–Le Moyne Hospital, on Montreal’s South Shore, is the latest hospital in the province to move to level four alert – doing so as of Sunday, Jan. 16.
Dealing with an ever-growing number of COVID patients, the hospital will be under the highest possible level under the province’s COVID-19 contingency plan for the Omicron wave.
According to the health ministry, Charles-Le Moyne was dealing with at least 129 COVID patients as of Jan. 11.
Under level four measures, hospitals can close emergency rooms, delay up to 80 per cent of their surgeries, and completely shut urgent care departments like cardiology and trauma centres – redirecting those patients elsewhere.
Five regional health boards and three hospitals in Montreal’s north end are now also at a level four alert: Sacré-Coeur, Jean-Talon, and Fleury.
The province adding adding 45 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours and 117 more people hospitalized due to the virus, with the province closing in on 3,000 patients in all.
