Premier Legault expected to ease more COVID-19 restrictions, reopen bars, organized sports games

Premier François Legault is expected to ease more COVID-19 restrictions and lay out a calendar for more reopenings at press conference today at 1 p.m.

Reports suggest bars will reopen Feb. 28, restaurants will be able to operate at a more fuller capacity with a maximum of 10 people per table, organized sports games for adults and children would resume, there could be no more limits for private gatherings in homes as of Saturday – with some public health recommendations like 10 people or members from no more than three different households.

On Monday, Quebec added 20 more deaths linked to COVID-19 and reported its first increase in the number of hospitalizations since Jan. 23.

Hospitalizations rose by 14 patients to 2,425 – with 178 people in intensive care, an increase of one from Sunday.

Places of worship, entertainment and sports venues were allowed to reopen as of Monday, after being shut down since December – with capacity limits in place and proof of vaccination required for entry.

Outdoor events can also resume with a limit of 1,000 attendees.

Gyms and spas are among those set to reopen Feb. 14 – also with 50 per cent capacity limits and the vaccine passport.

The 1 p.m. press conference will include Health Minister Christian Dubé and interim Public Health Director Dr. Luc Boileau.
