The Costello Irish Dance school in Saint-Lazare, west of Montreal, is getting ready for their first performance in the Saint Patrick’s day parade on March 20.
The parade is back for the first time since the pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020.
The energy and excitement is boiling over as everyone is ready to bring their talent back to Montreal’s streets.
“I just really love dancing, it makes me happy, and when I’m sad, I dance,” said Seanna Chiasson, Costello Irish Dance student. “We have to work together, and I really like working with these wonderful people.”

The power in their steps can be felt from across the studio – founded in 2015 by Irish Dancer, Casey Costello, the school exuberates their love for the Irish culture.
“Irish dance comes from Ireland, and what makes it very unique is that the upper body does not move. You hold your posture very steady with your arms by your side and then the legs and the feet do the majority of the movement and is very, very fast and intricate,” explained Costello.
Though scaled down this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Costello says that after a two-year absence, it’s a can’t miss.
“Montrealers and beyond should come to the St Patrick’s Day parade to have a really great time. Everyone’s Irish for the day. It’s very, very fun. It’s family-oriented. It’s all about community and having a great time, so everyone’s welcome.”
The 197th Saint Patrick’s Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. And will take place along Saint-Catherine street starting at Lambert-Closse Street and ending at Union Street.
