Montreal to get its metro blue line extension in the east end by 2029

Montreal’s metro blue line is getting an extension, after at least 30 years of talk.

There will be five new stations in the city’s east end by 2029.

They will be located along Jean-Talon at Pie-IX, Viau, Lacordaire, and Langelier. Then at Belanger for the Anjou station.

Officials from Montreal and the provincial government held a joint press conference on Friday to make the announcement.

A budget between $5.8 and $6.4 billion will be needed for the extension – most coming from Quebec and then $1.3 billion from the federal government.

It’s estimated 25,000 metro users will utilize the extension at rush hour, which could see over 5,000 vehicles come off the roads – according to the office for the blue line project.
