A 25-year-old woman is now in serious, but stable condition, after being stabbed early Sunday morning in Westmount and a 42-year-old man was charged with attempted murder on Monday.

The attack is believed to be random, police say the two did not know each other.

Curtis Jonas was charged with four counts: attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of narcotics – and is expected back in front of a judge on Tuesday. He was previously known to police.

The woman sustained injuries to her upper body and was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The incident occurred on de Maisonneuve Blvd., corner Roslyn Avenue, around 3:15 a.m on Sunday.

Westmount public security officers witnessed the incident and contacted 911.

Montreal police arrested the suspect onsite.
