A rescue and relocation operation to save a trapped fox is ongoing at the Old Port of Montreal.
The animal has been stranded on the ice by the King Edward Quay.
Sauvetage Animal Rescue (SAR) believes the fox crossed the ice from Parc de Dieppe – which may have been as long as two months ago.
They have been onsite working to help the animal and say the fox has been finding refuge under the dock – where they found its food den.
They explain that it seems young and inexperienced, unable to find its way back.
As the ice melts, the animal won’t be able survive if it can’t get back and forth to its food under the dock. And if he decides to swim, the current to cross would be dangerous.

On Saturday, SAR posted to their Facebook that the team had installed a large trap with meat to attract the animal, but no luck yet.
On Sunday, they also had a boat out in the water to help capture the animal.
SAR is asking the public not to interfere with their efforts, to watch silently if onsite as not to spook the fox.
