Hollywood actress and filmmaker Jamie Lee Curtis is partnering with Amazon Studios to produce a comedy series based on Quebec’s real-life maple syrup heist.
“The Sticky” is set to be filmed in Montreal this fall and will be based on the heist of 2,700 tonnes of maple syrup from a warehouse in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford, near Quebec City.
Curtis will be playing Ruth Clarke, a maple syrup farmer who is fed up with the bureaucracy and decides to do things her own way.

Real life inspires series
During the real-life Quebec heist a total of 9,500 barrels of maple syrup were stolen from the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers between 2011 and 2012 – total value of approximately $18 million.
Sixteen people were eventually arrested.
One of the ring leaders involved, Richard Vallières, was recently ordered by Canada’s Supreme Court to pay $9.1 million in fines after being found guilty of fraud, trafficking and theft.
