Montreal looks to boost city’s nightlife

By News Staff

Montreal mayor Valérie Plante wants to give the city’s nightlife a boost – with $2.1 million in funding for the project.

She presented a roadmap Monday that Plante says will lead to the adoption of the first-ever policy on Montreal’s nightlife by 2023.

The goal, to test different measures to revitalize Montreal’s nightlife and help optimize cohabitation with residents – and protect quality of life..

The city will invest $1.4 million to soundproof about 20 alternative performance venues – that have 400 seats or less. The venues will be able to receive a grant to conduct acoustic analyses and carry out work to adapt.

A series of studies will be conducted to draw up an economic portrait of nightlife.

They will also allow us to reflect on the opening hours of establishments.

A permanent consultation table with nightlife stakeholders will also be established – with some already recommending to designate night zones so that activities can take place continuously.

This announcement comes a few days before the Sommet de la nuit.
