Public will be able to pay respects to Montreal-born director and filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée on Saturday

The public will have a chance to say a final goodbye to renowned Montreal-born director and filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée – on Saturday, May 28.

His sons, Alex and Émile, as well as the rest of his family, will receive condolences from the public 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Centre PHI in Montreal (315 Saint-Paul west, H2Y 2M3).

The public will be able to pay their respects to Vallée’s ashes for a few moments.

The 58-year-old died unexpectedly on Dec. 25, found dead the next day in his cottage outside Quebec City by friends.

A coroner’s report made public in April concluded that he suffered a fatal cardiac arrhythmia.

Instead of flowers, the family asks that people make a donation to the Jean-Marc Vallée Memorial Fund created in his honour to support film students at Concordia University.

The Montreal native won an Emmy for directing the hit HBO series Big Little Lies, starring Reese Witherspoon. He also earned multiple Oscar nominations for his work on the critically-acclaimed movie Dallas Buyers Club.
