Montreal police say they disrupted a major network of amphetamine production and trafficking, seizing drugs with an estimated street value of more than $32 million with an early-morning operation Wednesday.

The SPVM, provincial police and local law enforcement initiated 28 searches across multiple regions in Quebec.

In a release, police say they seized more than 6.5 million amphetamine pills, 21 firearms, 500 kilograms of powdered amphetamine, six pill presses and more than $300,000 in cash.

Investigators uncovered more than $5 million of amphetamine was circulating across Quebec every week through what police are calling a drug highway.

A total of 280 police officers initiated searches in Montreal, Laval, the Laurentians, the South Shore, Quebec, and Mauricie. There were notable searches in St-Leonard, Boucherville, Chambly and Saint-Hubert.

“By attacking the income of organized crime as we have succeeded in doing today, we are attacking the purchasing power of criminals, in particular to acquire firearms,” said Francis Renaud of the organized crime division of the SPVM.
