Montreal SPCA removing adoption fees for special event on Friday

If you’re wanting a new pet, there’s no better time than now. The Montreal SPCA is waiving all adoption fees on Friday, June 10.

Summer is usually the busiest time of the year for the SPCA and many animals including dogs, cats and rabbits are still looking for a place to call home.

“We want each of our protégés to find a loving adoptive family. Adopters will be invited to contribute in the amount of their choice to our mission with the animals,” said Élise Desaulniers, Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA in a statement. “Our adoption counsellors will be happy to guide families and answer their questions.”

The SPCA says about 50 cats, 20 rabbits and 60 small animals, guinea pigs and turtles are among the list of animals up for adoption.

A few dogs are also available for adoption, but the requirements for adopting one will be a little more strict than the other animals.

“The few dogs available for adoption are mostly large and will be placed with families with members ages 16 years or older. These dogs have all undergone behavioural assessments to be properly matched with families and many will require follow-up in dog behaviour counselling. Please note that a second visit to the shelter may be required for the adoption to be completed,” said the SPCA in a statement.

Appointments for Friday’s adoption event are not required, however, the SPCA is asking families interested to read instructions on their Facebook page prior to showing up.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 10, at the Montreal SPCA located on Jean-Talon St.
