Police identify persons of interest but no threat as Parliament Hill probe continues

A police operation that saw Parliament Hill placed on lockdown due to a “suspicious incident” ended Saturday afternoon after police determined there was no threat to public safety.

The Parliamentary Protective Service had told members of Parliament and senators to “shelter in place” while it investigated.

That investigation was concluded when the Ottawa Police Service determined “no public safety threat has been identified.”

However, the force says it identified two people and two vehicles of interest but provided no details about the nature of the potential threat, only saying their investigation into the matter continues.

Roads previously closed to the public reopened at about 4 p.m.

In a statement to CityNews, the Parliamentary Protective Service said an alert was sent out via the Emergency Notification System (ENS) to all parliamentarians and parliamentary employees regarding an operation “with a possible threat.”

“All Parliamentary buildings are in Shelter in Place until further notice and Parliament Hill has been evacuated,” read the statement. “As the situation is ongoing, our highest priority continues to be the safety of the parliamentary community and the public. We continue to work closely with our security partners.”
