Free weekend metro rides in downtown Montreal this summer

The Montreal metro will be free on weekends between seven downtown stations this summer.

From June 24 to September 5, it will be free to board the metro on Saturdays and Sundays at the Saint-Laurent, Place-des-Arts, McGill, Peel, Champ-de-Mars, Place-d’Armes and Berri-UQAM stations.

The city of Montreal says the best way to come downtown is by public transit.

Although this is good news for public transit users, for drivers, the city is eliminating the free downtown parking it was offering on weekends.

The Ville-Marie borough also announced at $1.7 million investment to clean up the downtown core.

The money will be used to clean up orange cones and construction sites, as well as increase the number of garbage and recycling bins by over 50 per cent.

Two alleys along Peel and Stanley streets will also be embellished.
