Quebec’s immunization committee recommends fifth COVID-19 dose for some

By News Staff

Quebecers 60 and over – and vulnerable individuals – should receive a fifth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the summer, said the province’s immunization committee in a recommendation on Monday.

In addition to seniors, people living with a chronic disease, on dialysis, pregnant women and health care workers should also be targeted by this next vaccination campaign said the CIQ – Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec.

Between the second booster and this one, a period of three months should be respected as well.

Quebec has yet to officially make an announcement on this fifth dose.

Recommendations may be updated over the summer, as there are still several uncertainties regarding the evolution of influenza and COVID-19 circulation over the next few months and the efficacy or availability of vaccines.

The eventual availability of a vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant could imply a revision of the fall immunization strategy, particularly with regard to the relevant vaccine to be used and the optimal time for the next COVID-19 immunization campaign.
