“It has the power to change,” says Samuel Minevich, music therapist at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital and one of the organizers of their week-long Jazz Fest. Pamela Pagano reports.

The Jewish General Hospital’s (JGH) Jazz Fest is back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The 21st season is described as a one-of-a-kind, one-week event showcasing the healing power of music.

Music therapists from the hospital, Samuel Minevich and Henri Oppenheim, organized the event which feature free concerts – running until June 30 – showcasing the musical talents of JGH staff members, as well as local musicians.

The concerts start at 12 p.m. near the hospital’s Pavilion A entrance.

“The return of this festival is an ideal way to promote the relationship between creative art and healing, and is a way to highlight the unique nature of the JGH and its longstanding relationship with music therapy,” said Minevich.

“The JGH has recognized the crucial role that music has in the healing process for 35 years,” said Oppenheim. “Thanks to the support of the JGH Foundation, we can invite the community to share a positive and inclusive experience, that reflects the philosophy of the hospital and its diversity.”
