A Montreal police officer (SPVM) was shot Wednesday downtown. Authorities say his life is not in danger.
Police were called to Cabot Square around 11:45 p.m. about a conflict involving a man with a gun.
They intercepted the man near the corner of Fort and Tupper streets, where the man refused to surrender the gun and fled by foot, leading the SPVM to pursue him.
According to Quebec’s independent bureau of investigations (BEI), at least one gun shot was fired while police we’re chasing the man and an officer was shot in the leg.
Authorities then briefly lost the man before finding and arresting him in an alley near Hope Ave. and René Lévesque Blvd.
He was also transported to hospital with an injury to his leg. The BEI says it “may have been caused by a gun shot as well.”
Both the SPVM officer and the suspect’s lives are not in danger.
