Musical Palestinian brothers, Le Trio Joubran, made up of Samir, Wissam, and Adnan Joubran, are an all oud trio. They are touring Canada and were in Montreal.
They say they play to honour the struggles and oppression of their people through music.
“We are aiming to be normal musicians, and a normal musician is always aiming to build their career bigger and bigger,” added Samir. “My message is giving love, hope, we are still hoping that we can get the freedom to live in a free country without occupation.”
“We are trying to translate this love to music,” said Wissam.
Originally from the city of Nazareth, the Joubran’s are the first oud trio.
They now divide their time between Nazareth, Ramallah and Paris – travelling the world with their message. Their commitment – to tell people about the Palestinian cause. Using the ‘Last Speech’ as their first musical piece in their current shows
“It is a poem that Mahmoud Darwish, the great poet, wrote in 1992,” explained Wissam. “It is a very symbolic message actually because he is comparing this case [of the Indigenous and white man] to the Palestinian case. We are living this situation since 74 years and until today, and we aim to end this occupation and start the life.”
The brothers will soon celebrate their 20th anniversary, coming from a family blended with music and oud making.
Their mother sang the Muwashahat – poems that originated in Arab Spain, while their father is among the most renowned stringed-instrument makers in Palestine and in the Arab world.

Bringing their sounds to North America and beyond.
“For us, Montreal is the second home, because since a long time I think we started me and Wissam to perform here in 2001 or 2000. We have a great public here, we miss you so much,” said Samir.
