Quebec’s annual construction holiday is kicking off as of Friday, shutting down most of the province’s construction sites.
It will last two weeks until August 6th.
It’s the most popular time for summer vacation in Quebec, with close to 200,000 construction workers on holiday, and people outside the construction industry also taking vacation.
The two week break will kick off with some hot and humid weather expected across Quebec all weekend but by Sunday evening a new low pressure system will be bringing with it some rain and cooler temperatures.
A heat warning issued by Environment Canada on Wednesday remains in effect for Montreal, the Laurentians, Lanaudière and Montérégie.
Montreal could see daytime highs above 30 C again on Saturday and Sunday, with humidex values close to 40 C by the second half of the weekend.
The long-term weather forecast is calling for a mix of sun and cloud, and some rain also.
Montreal is expected to see some relief from the heat wave at least for the first week of construction holiday.
