Montreal weekend road closures bound to give drivers a few headaches
Posted August 5, 2022 3:33 pm.
Montreal drivers should perhaps think of leaving their car at home this weekend.
With a number of road closures expected because of construction and summer festivals, driving in and around town will be extra difficult over the next few days.
Drivers are urged to avoid the Pie-X Bridge, Highway 640 in Terrebonne, Highway 15 North between Candiac and Brossard, and Rene-Levesque Blvd. on Sunday, where the Montreal Pride Parade will be taking place.
From Saturday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., the Pie-IX Bridge will be closed in both directions between Montreal and Laval.
On Saturday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., two of three lanes on Highway 15 North between Candiac and Brossard will be closed.
From Saturday at 11 p.m. to Sunday at 6 a.m. Highway 15 will be completely closed to traffic.
Highway 640 and Highway 30 will also have partial closures over the weekend.
Summer festivals force closures
Saturday night is the last night of the Montreal International Fireworks Competition. For this reason, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will close in both directions. The Ville-Marie Expressway East in the Ville-Marie Tunnel will also be closed on Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. due to the fireworks.
On Sunday, drivers should avoid downtown Rene-Levesque Blvd, as the Montreal Pride Parade will run along the boulevard at Metcalfe St. and end at Alexandre-De Seve St. The parade starts at 1 p.m.
