The City of Montreal says Philippe Schnobb was selected in order to “maintain the success of future editions of the Montreal Pride parade and to re-establish the public’s confidence in the Pride Montreal organization.”

The city says Schnobb’s nomination was approved by Pride Montreal.
The independent probe is expected to provide answers and recommendations “in the next few months.”
The investigation into the last-minute cancellation of the Montreal Pride parade last week was at the request of Mayor Valerie Plante.
The probe will aim to shed more light on what led to the abrupt cancellation of the event.
The decision to cancel the signature event came hours before it was to begin. The festival’s executive director cited security concerns stemming from a lack of volunteers to ensure the event could go ahead safely.

He later said the organization forgot to hire about 100 people.

“I have at heart the success of future editions of this event, which is critical for the community and the City of Montreal,” said Schnobb, who is currently on the board of directors at Fondation Émergence, a non-profit organization.
For its part, Pride Montreal, the organization that runs the city’s annual celebration of 2SLGBTQ+ communities, is conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.
