Henri Do has done it. The Montreal man is the first to complete the Trans Canada Bike Race – peddling across Canada from the Yukon to the Eastern most tip of North America.
A journey of 12,500 kilometres.
“At night when I got there it was so quiet, no wind, it was perfect to enjoy the moment. So ya it’s done, I did it.”
CityNews spoke with Do in July as he was passing through the Toronto area. At the time he told explained some of the ups and downs of the adventure, saying it was worth the effort – a sentiment he maintains with the race officially complete.
“So many beautiful and amazing things, amazing people, though times and bad times too … the whole package is what made it an adventure.”
Meanwhile, just outside Toronto in Markham, Henri’s sister has been cheering him on with the family, even rendezvousing with him mid-journey.
“[I’m] super happy for him, he did it, he did it,” said Elise Do.
She says she’s been keeping up with him via group chat and his updates on social media – adding she was confident he’d make the finish line.
“He can get through anything that comes his way, he always does.”
During the early stages of the trip, cougars, bears and isolation were major concerns Elise had for her brother, as for the second half of the trip, Elise said, “I was happy when he got to Montreal and he could see friends and his mom … so yes no more worrying, for now, until the next one.”
As for the one who completed the long trek, “It was the experience of a lifetime and I think I’ve grown as a person,” said Henry.
Henri added he’d not only do it again, but he also isn’t even taking a break, with plans to hit the road again almost right away.
“I have another event tomorrow, might even write a bit tonight.”
Henri completed the journey in just over 60 days.
