Montreal Alouettes Christophe Normand suspended, facing two charges of luring a child

The Montreal Alouettes say fullback Christophe Normand has been suspended pending the outcome of a luring investigation.

Court records show Normand is facing two charges of luring a child, including one count of luring a child under 16.

Provincial police Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau said the 30-year-old Normand was arrested after a search at his home by police investigators on the morning of Aug. 19.

He appeared in court on Thursday.

A seven-year veteran in the CFL, Normand is currently in his third season with Montreal.

On Thursday night, the Alouettes said in a statement that “the organization is taking this matter seriously and is trying to gather as much information as possible. The Alouettes will make no further comment at the moment.”

On Friday morning, the Alouettes stated, “Normand is suspended until further notice pending accusations of luring.”

“To respect all parties involved, we will wait for the end of the investigation,” says Mario Cecchini, President of the Montreal Alouettes. “As of now, Christophe is suspended until further notice”.

Early in the day on Thursday, other media outlets reported Normand was accused of having communications with someone under the age of 16, “with a view to facilitating the commission of an offence against him,” of a sexual nature, such as assault or possession of obscene material.
