Emergency alert lifted after ‘dangerous’ suspect arrested in Gaspésie

The Sûreté du Québec have arrested a suspect whose presence in Saint-Elzéar-de-Bonaventure – in the Gaspésie region – prompted police to issue an alert Friday afternoon.

Provincial police confirmed the suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested later that night.

Police said the suspect was scheduled to meet with investigators.

Police say operation to locate the potentially armed and “dangerous” suspect began around 2 a.m. in the community 10 hours northeast of Montreal.

The SQ sent out the “extreme” level, province-wide alert around 3:30 p.m.

Residents of Saint-Elzéar-de-Bonaventure were warned to stay indoors, lock their doors and not approach the suspect.
