Man charged with first-degree murder after woman stabbed to death in LaSalle

The 50-year-old ex-partner of a woman stabbed to death in LaSalle on Thursday morning, has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.
SOS Violence Conjugale has identified the woman as Gisèle Itale Betondi, a mother of three.
The eighth reported femicide of the year in Quebec and Montreal’s 22nd homicide of 2022.
Hosea Amorus Puhya appeared in court via video conference on Friday afternoon. He will remain behind bars until his next court date Oct. 12.
Montreal police (SPVM) say the 29-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in an outdoor parking lot of an apartment building on des Oblats street, near Wanklyn, around 8:45 a.m on Thursday.
Witnesses reporting that she had just placed her children in the car, including a baby – when she was attacked and stabbed multiple times.
Authorities report she suffered life-threatening injuries to her upper body and was unconscious when officers arrived on the scene. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she later succumb to her injuries.
Police arrested the suspect on Thursday night and had said he was known to them.
Le Journal found that the 50-year-old suspect – who they also report is the woman’s ex-partner – was previously acquitted in June on charges of making threats towards her. And he was also in court on Aug. 31 in connection with breaches of conditions that he would have committed in January. At that time, he was forbidden to be at Betondi’s home, to approach her or even to communicate with her.

Last Thursday, Sept. 1, another young woman was stabbed by a man in Milton Park in broad daylight. The 23-year-old woman was stabbed on the corner of Durocher and Milton Streets at around 5:30 p.m. She survived.
A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack. It is unclear whether they knew each other.
